About Us

What began as a horse show turned into something more. Much more. From the embers of another charity venture, The Phoenix Charity was born.

The Phoenix Charity is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to empowering veterans by providing highly trained service and PTSD dogs at no cost. Founded in honor of our founders' family members who served in the Navy, Army, Marines, and National Guard, and inspired by a passion for supporting those who have served, we aim to enhance the lives of veterans struggling with physical and mental health challenges.

 

Through our flagship fundraiser, The Phoenix Horse Show, and other community-driven efforts, we raise funds to deliver these life-changing companions, fostering independence, healing, and hope for veterans across Tennessee and beyond.

Marty Barr, President/CEO (former Navy corpsman)

Jennifer Barr, treasurer

Kelly Martin, secretary

Marty and Jennifer Barr founded The Phoenix Charity in early 2025. Marty heads up day to day operations, including dog training; serving as our President & CEO. His wife, Jennifer, serves as the charity's treasurer. Kelly Martin serves as secretary to the charity.
